    My dearest precious committee,

I was driving back from our post-mortem meeting last Thursday night, and felt truly blessed that we have each other throughout the entire 2 months of preparation.

There were so many challenges and surprises along the way, and yet it was always such a joy to see your familiar faces every Thursday at 8pm, or some at 8:20pm. (ahem…)

This email should have arrived earlier, but it’s never too late to appreciate each and every single one of you.

It may be long, but please bear with me. Thanks! : )

    I would like to thank:-

    1) Sam:

Our key coordinator from Kuen Cheng, and our well-respected Camp Commander.

She is one of the key success factor in our first partnership with Kuen Cheng this year. Unknown to many, the initial response from Kuen Cheng wasn’t very encouraging, and Sam was our inside negotiator, spending much time and effort to persuade and convince the teachers and committee so that they could see the light at the end of the tunnel. 辛苦你了!

A very experienced and dedicated 30-Hour Famine participant and organizer, she has demonstrated strong leadership in leading the KC committee, and is an invaluable source to both KC and the famine camp.

Young, vibrant and a future leader in the making, we pray that she will start training her successor now.

    2) Mee Lee:

Our key coordinator from Beautiful Gate, she bridges the gap between the committee and BG, by communicating and coordinating the needs and expectations from both parties.

She started with the registration process, attending to all enquiries from interested potential participants, and liaised with our potential venue as well as water sponsors. We also have to thank her for filtering our volunteers during the last recruitment so that we have the right people for the camp.

She has displayed a great sense of commitment by being the first to arrive at our weekly committee meeting, and she never fails to follow through on her designated tasks.

A great listener, ever so patient and humble, these are qualities that every volunteer should possess.

    3) Say Leng:

Our programmer, graphic and web designer, copywriter and scriber, he wears many hats and is equally as proficient in every role.

As a programmer, he has greatly ease our registration process by “connecting” to the central registration system and “borrowing” their codes to complete our own system. As a graphic and web designer, he designed and maintained our website, so that participants could find out more about our work and register themselves. As a copywriter, he wrote our volunteer recrutiment ad, participants notification letter and everything else that requires his talent. As a scriber, he pens down of every single detail that occur during the camp so that the next committee could gain valuable insight from his notes.

He also helps to recce our venue at the very begining, speaking on behalf of our disabled friends.

Strong, skilled and talented, I can’t imagine a committee without him.

    4) Joanne:

The best Assistant Camp Commander and stand-in I could ever dream of having. She covers everything, and I mean everything, from head to toe.

Always spotted with her “health” tea everywhere she goes, she’s efficient to the dot, and had managed to not only take care of external matters, but also internal and program related issues. She also took leave and canceled her meeting last Friday, so that she could transport the 800 bottles of water and oversee the entire set-up operation at Kuen Cheng. She is also a sponsor herself for our camp, providing water dispensers, thermometers (one got lost), printed signage and other materials.

Very resourceful, passionate, and reliable, let’s hope this bubbly character doesn’t run off to another camp.

    5) Wing:

One of the first that have started preparing and working before the rest, with huge responsibilities under his belt, he is our well-trusted Internal Coordinator.

I’m always amazed at his time management skills, where he juggle within his fiancée, work, odd-hours conf-call, BG & HeapHope commitments, capoeira and dance classes, and last I heard, guitar classes. (Serious ar?)

He had managed the Registration team well, despite having to deal with the challenging and tedious process this year. Aside from heading the Registration team, he ensured that we have the right candidates to head hospitality, material, AV& lighting, setup, wellness, timekeeper, scriber, cleanliness and security.

Responsible, friendly and very very likeable, I’m sure he could apply his skills for his wedding preparations.

    6) Serena:

As much as she would like to be heavily involved, we have confined her to the role of our Advisor and Finance Controller, to minimize her movement and prepare for the grand arrival of Tan junior.

The only volunteer that I’ve known to travel extensively for so many World Vision child sponsorship visits around the world, she is a lady with a heart of gold. For this camp, she has shared her vast experience in organizing previous camps, and fulfilled her role to keep everything within our budget. If given a choice, we know she would definitely come for both the DIY and main camps, but we’re all glad she didn’t.

Dedicated and responsible, we know she would register Tan junior as the youngest member of Heap Hope.

    7) Eewen:

She has been blessed with many talents: to sing, to dance, to host and now, to plan and organize at the camp as a Program Coordinator.

Planning the program right from the beginning, she was chosen for her creativity, sensitivity and attention to details. She proved herself with the successful implementation of several programs throughout the camp, and taught us all a new phrase “Vox-pop”.

She’s always ready to serve and take on different roles, like writing bilingual minutes (which others dread at doing), transporting camp materials and coming back on set-up day.

I’m sure many could relate to her cheerful and positive attitude with the all too familiar “Helloooo!!!” or “Morningggg!!!” which never fails to brighten our day.

Talented, creative and highly motivated, we’re glad that she has discovered her new role in life……….. as a jellyfish.

    8) Chien Hui:

It’s hard to believe that this feisty little girl is still studying, when she has demonstrated such strong capability in planning programs and managing celebrities.

Assistant Program Coordinator and Celebrity Liaison, she is ever so lively and full of energy, assisting Eewen with programs and ensuring that the campers are all well-entertained with the presence of a whole list of celebrities.

A strong executor, you know you could count her to get her job done, which also includes preparing and sending out CC to-do-list and meeting minutes within very short time span.

Kind, energetic, and full of potential, she has a promising future ahead of her, as a secretary to the CC.

    9) Sean:

Everyone was delighted that he could join us as the Famine Challenge 2 coordinator when he was needed most.

One of our most intelligent member, he was the first to draft our vision and mission statement, and from then onwards automatically appointed as our official “letter-generator”. After the 1st briefing, he immediately picked up his pace and started coordinating for FC 2, providing valuable advice and assisting Eewen and Pei Yiik on the most complicated activity for the camp.

Despite being a natural born artist and director, he sometimes choose to shy away from the limelight, to serve quitely and passionately.

Brilliant, articulate and expressive, he is our very own Oscar Best Actor and Director.

    10) Pei Yiik

As the Famine Challenge 2 coordinator, she was one of the few who have throughly read the guide and reference for the activity. She planned and prepared the materials right from the start, ensuring that we have everything ready and all areas covered.

She presented her ideas with much clarity and understanding, and I know instantly that we are in good hands. Everyone enjoyed her company at the volunteer training camp, and though she is unable to join us on the actual day as duty calls, she has spent much time and effort to transfer her knowledge to Sean.

Artistic, jovial and eccentric, she has promised to put all her talents into good use for next year’s Famine Camp.

    11) Mei Leng:

She was called-in in the midst of her wedding preparation as the Famine Challenge 1 coordinator at the eleventh hour.

However, one or two briefing by Eewen later, she steps up to her role and even brought in new ideas to the activity. Being responsible and efficient as always, she also coordinated on the preparation and delivery of the materials necessary for FC1.

We have received many positive feedback and review on FC1, and we definitely owe it to her for her dedication and commitment.

Dependable and devoted, we look forward to the participation of her other half for the next event.

    12) Dino:

Our very own Mr. Emcee, having him means we don’t have to worry about the crowd.

He controls the crowd, speaks to the audience, conveys important message, presents the guest speakers and performers, and keep the event moving. The participants love him, as he makes them laugh or cry.

A nutritionist by profession, he has also generously sponsored his very own “Perfect Meal’ for the camp.

A charismatic and gifted speaker, we trust Juno will inherit his talent. : )

    Cheers,
    William

Yea finally, some moment to reply to this.
It has been a very fruitful event for alot of people in the whole course of this camp.
I would like to thank everyone who has helped me in my first time experience holding an internal coordinator role.

Firstly William, our role model, an attractive personality that never fails to bring the team together and really structured the whole camp. Blessed that we have him for this year’s camp CC. Its a learning experience to see how he handles obstacle with grace and ever so diplomatic in his speech

Sam, only 17 but have a strong leadership. Im sure she will grow up to be just great in whatever she does. Yea Sam, try your best to teach as many people to be like you. I can only imagine what a great character she will be with more experience in time.

Serena, her spirit never cease to amaze me. Im glad she has chosen to shower her babe by giving him the protection he needs. Although she didnt come for the actual camp, I can feel her spirit as she comes to the meeting every week and has really helped us alot to organize the account. Also she stayed back with me during the camper registration and sacrificed watching the A-Mei TV program. Thanks!

Jo, our storehouse, our multi talented, multi role person who is always eager to grab any actions no one else wanted to take. She has a very good foresight to see ahead and prepare for things. definitely a lot of things to learn from her.

Eewen, our multi talented personnel. Because of that she is kept busy with a lot of role and her high spirit definitely made the camp so much more enjoyable. She is also candidate to step up whenever some one is not around . definitely a colorful character

Chien Hui, our very potential leader of the future. Has very niche ability that no other seem to have and she is able to pull her resources so well. Also manage to produce such good report and keep reminding people about their action items. very good coordinator

Say Leng, very impressed with the IT knowledge that he has. Being an IT person myself, I know just how good he really is. Definitely a role model for any handicapped person out there who think they cant do anything. He has grown so much within a year that I think he is very much a potential leader.

Mee Li, my co partner ever so helpful and cooperative, doing her work without complain. Always staying back so late to do work. I feel at ease knowing she is there to take care of the BG registration and her reports are very nice and detailed.

Pei Yiik, (Meerly) definitely another colorful personality and a very artistic person to boot. Didnt get much of a chance to work with her but a few encounter with her and I know she is a very capable, creative and cheerful kind of person. Looking forward to work with you more in the future.

Sean, My Heng Dai, we don’t need to speak much but know what goes on in each others mind. Definitely another attractive character and very funny an a silly way hahaha. Needless to say he already knows how much I treasure our friendship and I am so happy we get to work together for social responsibility.

Mei Leng, my big sis. any kind of work given to her is sure to be well taken care of. trust me I know. she is super responsible. Although faced with daunting task, she is still able to pull it off beautifully. Definitely my role model.

Dino, my brother. somehow I feel very close to this guy. He has that effect on people, even strangers. able to make people cry or smile at will. it’s a skill not many people have. Just down know how he does it. Some one who live life to the fullest

And our dear Siew Chin, thanks for you guidance and support all these while. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to hold so many events together and never fail to show up to support the cause.

I feel that we have now achieve what I would call a dream team. People from different background and with different talent coming together with talents complementing each other. My hope is to grow this family to much more like minded people out there and spread the love.

    Regards,
    Wing
